You are talking about animations and such, so i have a question. Call me a sucker for eye candy, but, as you are going to such painstaking details... would the possibility exist for operable doors and such? This would be especially nice on the freighter version, IMO. Either way, i'm really looking forward to the release of this aircraft.

Yes of course. The 300 is on the tentative to do list and should be a fairly easy conversion. There are also plans in the works for a freighter version. Tentatively, all three will be released one at a time with the 200 as the base package. The 300 and subsequent freighter will just be free add ons to the package.

I can't give a timetable at the moment, but I can assure that all updates to progress will be revealed here. I'm currently working on a certain british made engine that just happens to look brilliant on about everything that the brits put it on. Details later!

Due to the sheer amount of man-hours going into this acft, it will be a payware project.

That being said, we're definitely going to make this worth the price. Multitude of liveries, accurate cockpit, possibly plug-in assisted animations, etc...

Take a look and search at X-Plane.org and Ben Supnik's scenery library for more details, specifics, and help on obj8. There are some great references for OBJ8 available at http://www.xsquawkbox.net/scenery/library.php. Just dig through the obj8 docs there and it will give you some background. Datarefs are part of the key to obj8. They are sim controlled variables that can be tied to animation commands nested within obj8 files. What it allows us to do is build the entire aircraft in a 3rd party application, like Blender (which is what I use).

In Blender, we can construct a highly accurate 3d model of the aircraft. Using the software, we can set up animations for the various parts of the aircraft as well and using obj8 scripts, can export to obj8 format for use in the sim. Complex animations such as slotted flaps, landing gear retraction / extension cycles, reverse thrust systems, APU generator ducts, even 3d panel switches and knobs can all driven by datarefs and obj8. The accurate geometry, the realistic animations, and benefits of texturing accuracy all make obj8 aircraft far more realistic in appearance and functionality.

The 757 is still in the early development stages as noted, but will indeed be ahead of the 777 in terms of modeling and model functionality.

Hi, where could someone like myself learn more about the OBJ8 format and what it's capabilitie for x-plane are. What sort of realism are you expecting to achieve? Does this project supersede the 777?
